Recovery of La Cañonera Creek

Towards the northern edge of LaMorán in the area of Casalta a natural spring runs down the hilleventually ending in the Guaire River. The creek water has beencontaminated with sewage from nearby inhabitants threatening theenvironmental and creating serious health threats that are alreadyevident in the frequent illnesses and allergies among children thatlive in the area. The project proposes to work closely with thecommunity, teaching them the value and importance of a healthy andclean environment and creating civic consciousness. A separatesewage collection system has been designed that connects to everyhome, which will run parallel to the creek with man wholes thatallow for easy maintenance. The creek will also serve to evacuaterainwater and along its side banks new landscape will furtheremphasize its natural characteristics and provide the communitywith public space, public lighting, signage and urbanfurniture.
