Vela Chacao, sponsored by Cultura Chacao, marked the entrance into the Avila Mountain National Park at Sabas Nieves. It celebrated the ritual thousands of citizens and tourists perform daily for recreation and exercise, hiking up the hill from roughly 1000 m to 1300 meter above sea level.

The installation hovered above the paved walkway at approximately 5 meters, suspended between the fenced walls above the access walway that is 4 meters in width. On weekends vendors sell juices and soft drinks creating a colorful streetscape of umbrellas and bottles. Nonetheless, the thick canopy of tall trees reaches even higher altitudes and lends its shade to the transient space. They also create a dynamic play of colors as patches of shadows are cast on to the translucent sails and fragments of green and sky peak between the triangulated surfaces. At certain hours of the day Vela casts its own shadow onto the pavement, registering its geometry together with that of the surrounding vegetation.
