Arashi Aruba eco-boutique hotel
Arashi Aruba
2021
Arashi is located toward the northern end of the island of Aruba. It is known for its spectacular beaches and lower density development. The project for an ecologically sensitive boutique hotel, engages the landscape by embracing the natural drainage path that traverses the site. Water is filtered and collected in a natural pond, which further purifies it through contact with aquatic vegetation, before being released into the ocean.
The project includes 30 suites arranged in 10 3-story towers, where each unit occupies the entire floor. The structure is entirely made of wood and materials that reduce the building´s carbon footprint. The perimeter walls and terrace are protected from direct sunrays with wood louvers on rails that can be adjusted by the users. Each structure fronts onto the central pool with decks that extend into the water like docks. The southern edge of the property hosts the reception, restaurant, bar, gym and other amenities in two structures with woven palm roofs. The pool itself is lined with aquatic vegetation and opens onto uninterrupted views of the ocean. There is also a hydroponic garden used by the restaurant´s chef, floating massage areas and a walkway that leads to the beach.
