Signage Design for the Central University of Venezuela
Signage design for the Central University of Venezuela UCV | Multifunction Pole Proposal

Medio® proposes a new orientation system for the Central University of Venezuela´s – UCV, various users including students, professors, staff, patients and family members of the Hospital and dentistry, as well as tourists and passers-by. Maps divided into sectors allow space to be codified and fragmented to facilitate navigation. The map format may be printed or digital.

The proposal is centered on two device typologies, used to both point directions and share information. Vertical posts are made up of a metallic tubular element with a concrete base in the same shape and diameter as the cylinder. Pivoting hinges hold horizontal metal sheets that end in an arrow, and can be rotated to point in a certain direction. They display the names of the departments and faculties and the approximate walking time to get there. Signage also indicates the direction of Metro exits, bus and taxi stations, cafeterias, bathrooms, first aid, and can include maps.

The second element is composed of a wire mesh or grid that references the fence next to the university metro station. Larger surfaces can be assembled by repeating the 70 cm wide by 1.80 m high module, which can accommodate maps and diagrams. A singule module can be used to identify a place or building, descriptions and information about works of art, or significant landscape architecture moments.
